Preliminary research
Macro-Meso-Micro Research
To prepare for the study tour to Japan the participants will do a preliminary research. This research will have a macro-meso-micro structure.
During the macro research we will investigate eight different aspects of Japan which we will link to our theme “Kintsugi: the art of healing”, by looking how the aspects evolve through time. The subjects are: (bio)medical, education, geography, art and architecture, politics, economics, social (culture), and technology. Each of these topics will be researched following a past-present-future structure, we will look at how this topic has evolved through time and what the expectations are for the future.
The meso research will focus on different sectors within the biomedical industry and will investigate the differences in Japan and the Netherlands, as well as look at the development through time. The Michael Porter’s Diamond model will be used to evaluate the research questions and compare the two countries. This analysis will offer insights in the factors driving innovation and competitiveness within Japan’s healthcare system, providing valuable perspectives for addressing global health and aging challenges. The following factors will be researched: manufacture of irradiation, electromedical, and electrotherapeutic equipment, elderly care, technical testing and analysis, research and experimental development in biotechnology, hospital activities, and alternative healing methods in Japan.
Finally, the micro research will take a deep dive into certain parts of biomedical technology. This research is based on the different research the companies we will visit during the study tour are doing. The findings from this research will be presented during a visit to that certain company.
